Aalto on Waves is an innovation project at Aalto University that takes 100 university students and some 10 staff members and other partners from Helsinki to Brazil in November-December of 2011. Our goal is to work on various real-world challenges during the journey, focused on social impact as the main subject.

During the sea trip participants – students, professors and external partners – will organize and participate in various workshops and events together. Our program will consists of sports, language courses, case studies or a visit to the ship’s bridge. For example, we’ll arrange a TEDx event aboard the ship. In Brazil our program includes excursions together with partnership companies and organizations. We will also take Aalto Design Factory to Brazil – even if just for a day or two.

First and foremost the journey is a learning experience for everybody as individuals as well as collectively for Aalto and other partners. We will make the Aalto community stronger and enhance the international networks and recognizability of Aalto University and AYY. Thus we will advance the growth and networking of participants in Finland and abroad. The journey provides an unforgettable and unique experience for the participants. MIDE (Multidisciplinary Institute of Digitalisation and Energy)

Multidisciplinary Institute of Digitalisation and Energy (MIDE), a research program on digitalisation and energy technology at the Aalto University, carries out important long-term projects aimed at creating high-level expertise, strengthening teaching and increasing the competitiveness of Finnish business and industry. Foundations and Funds Supporting Aalto on Waves

Fund for Promoting Teekkari Activities (TTER) hands out grants to the whole AYY membership (students of technology, students of art and design, students of economics) and the student associations and communities near AYY. The purpose of the fund is to promote interest in matters and activities concerning economics, technology, science, society and art.
The purpose of the Technology Industries of Finland Centennial Foundation is to promote training and research that help raise the level of competence in the industries represented by the Federation of Finnish Technology Industries and that help promote business and bolster competitiveness, as well as fostering a favourable and innovative business environment.
The purpose of Liikesivistysrahasto – The Foundation for Economic Education is to promote higher business education in Finland. To achieve this goal, the Foundation provides grants to individuals and groups engaged in scientific research in the field of business economics. Moreover, the Foundation supports high quality business education projects with an international and/or domestic dimension.
 Jenny ja Antti Wihurin rahasto
The purpose of the Jenny and Antti Wihuri Foundation is to promote and support cultural and economic development in Finland. The wording is not overly specific and so a wide range of activities are possible. The Foundation fulfills its purpose by distributing grants and awards and otherwise by giving financial aid to activities, thus furthering the cultural and economic life of the country. Year 2011 distribution was 9.700.000 euros.
